Description
This course prepares students to work in the newsrooms of the 21st century, using digital and online media with an emphasis on video shooting and  editing, creating audio slideshows and generating material for the web.   This is an intermediate class that will focus on advanced photojournalism and broadcast news techniques, instruct students on the proper techniques for gathering sound, shooting and editing video and how to produce visual stories for the web. Students will explore advanced journalism practices including making ethical decisions regarding coverage of a news story, accuracy, writing proficiency and meeting strict deadlines.
Objectives
Students who complete this course should be able to:
o    Record audio with digital voice recorders in the field including natural sound and interviews
o    Edit audio using various audio editing software
o    Shoot, log and edit videotape for Web news stories
o    Use the basic tools for telling multimedia stories including Soundslides, IMOVIE, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Audacity, Flash, HTML & CSS
o    The fundamentals of visual storytelling
o    The ability to discern the components needed to tell a multi media story online
o    Make ethical decisions regarding the use of visuals and audio to tell a news story
o    Understand and meet deadlines
