REQUIRED WORK
Multimedia Story Critiques – reviewing and researching websites from various news organizations, groups and individuals. These critiques will examine the use of multimedia to convey information in today’s world. The critiques will also determine usability of the site, display of content, quality of content.
Blogging – each student will set up a Blog using WordPress. Students will be required to update this Blog on a weekly scheduled and utilize this Blog to showcase the work from this class. The Blog will be maintained in a professional manner, as this is something, which will be online and can be seen by anyone with access to the Internet.
Gathering Audio – students will use digital voice recorders to gather audio for posting on their Blogs and to create their Soundslides assignments.
Photo 1 & 2 – students will shoot photographs for use on their Blogs and in their Soundslides assignments.
Soundslides 1 & 2 – two separate digital slide shows created with audio gathered for audio assignments and original photographs to tell two stories.
Video Shooting and Editing – basic shooting/ editing for a short video utilizing the fundamental rules of visual storytelling.
Weekly Assignments – Each week various students will complete one video or one audio slideshow for the NTDaily Website. This assignment will be from a story idea generated by the student, present to the class and approved by the professor and the Editor of the NTDaily.
Mid-Term – a written exam covering all lectures, readings, guest speakers and video show in class or for homework.
FINAL PROJECT – a group project incorporating audio, photographs, and video to produce a short multimedia story for the Web. The stories will be posted on the students’ Blogs.
INSTRUCTOR EVALUATION: 50 points
Among other things, I will judge you on class participation, eagerness, creativity, and improvement during the semester.
